Still Lifes

The objects, which are put on center stage, are chosen from a pure aesthetic point of view for their universal symbolic interpretations, the beauty in their details and sculptural quality, or a composite of the three.  In either case, the objects are generally small objects that, for the most part, go unnoticed.  To give the objects a sense of identity, I have altered them in some manner and added symbols or objects that allude to specific people or events.

Through the still lifes I paint, I hope to offer some evidence of the details that exist in the world and the inherent beauty in the mundane.  Painting these still lifes has allowed me to see more clearly and appreciate the found art that has always existed in my life.  I want to share my observations because I believe that it is by such small discoveries that we may all see more of what surrounds us.
