Alter Piece Series
The Alter Piece series began with trying to capture the beauty within the landscapes of my hometown of Roseville, California,
before they were consumed by urban sprawl. I didn't try to glamorize or create a romantic vision of these miniature Gardens of Eden.
I wanted to capture what I saw: pristine landscapes with signs of the inevitable 'sprawl.'
As I painted these landscapes, it felt as though I was painting my own story and my own struggle to overcome adversity. The
objects I have selected to juxtapose these landscapes were chosen for their personal symbolic qualities, aesthetic appeal, or
a combination of the two.
